It is Official - UK Gets the iPhone
It is now official! The recent buzz was not a fuss and the iPhone is to be sold in the UK, the first European country to benefit from selling iPhones. The carrier chosen was O2 and the price for the 8GB iPhone will be of 269 pounds, that is around $535. The mobile phone will begin selling on November 9 and was presented by utilizing the same ads that were run in the US, but with British voiceover. O2 seemed very happy with being the chosen carrier and referred to the iPhone as a breakthrough device. The company signed a deal with Carpone Wharehouse and will offer sales of the mobile phone in 1300 points of distribution. There are different plans to chose from to enhance the product including Visual Voicemail. As I expected, there is no word on 3G so this is not a surprise.
With the launch of the iPhone we also got to see the fact that the iTunes music store will soon come to the UK. Also, there was no mention of a future device launch in any other country in Europe. On the other hand, we are soon to see a show in Berlin. Everybody now things that it will be for the announcement of partnership between Apple and a German carrier in order to bring the iPhone to Germany as well. We will have to see how it all develops and it will be interesting to see how the entire European iPhone campaign will end, or will it ever end? We are bound to see iPhones in many European countries and maybe even Asian. We just have to be patient.
